Your attempt at becoming a career alcoholic

I thought I would post this little story, about my various attempts to quit, false starts, relapses, etc. As I read other threads I find some level of encouragement in the fact I am not alone and others are going through this as I type this. I hope to find some level of accountability and encouragement.

I will go first: I started drinking every now and again in the late 90's. Jack Daniels was my beverage of choice, straight up. I had actually stopped 'round about 2000 for a while. In 2001 I took another job in construction where everyone talked about "beer:30." I started in on beer, then moved to Rum and SoCo, always coming back to good 'ol JD.

Fast foward to the past few years, I was 80% hard liquor, the rest beer and wine. I stopped last summer for a month but was back at it again when I caught a cold and bought one bottle of Rock & Rye and then that'll be it, no more. Heh.... yeah right.

Kept up the cheapo Canadian whisky drinkin' until last week and finally had enough. I was good for three days, had a stupid relapse, now I have my act together a little better.

I'd like to hear your stories as well, as we all are in this together!

ETA- a good 50% of the time I managed to keep this all under wraps. I got pretty sneaky about hiding it from my family and co-workers.

About the ages 16-24, pretty much nothing but beer.

At 24, my dermatologist diagnosed me with a facial skin disorder, and told me I was addicted to hops. He even told me that if I drink to stay away from beer....drink vodka! WELL HELL YES I was thinking lol!

So, since that time it has been about 10,000 or so vodka/Gatorade drinks and jagermeister shots.

Knew I was in trouble when I would get 2-3 day withdrawals after only 2-3 days drinking straight. Of course, that didn't stop me for a long time. Since then I think I have had as many withdrawal days as drunk days. The real fun ones were when I would be scared of wd and just keep drinking straight...which sometimes lasted 2-3 weeks. Gee, what a good time...NOT
