When I had tried everything to stop there was only one thing left to do, I stopped. I'm glad I did.

I got so hopeless that I had to commit to AA.

All the best.

Define "everything" for me, please.

Too often we "think" we've done everything. But we really haven't done the work. Recovery is about doing, not thinking. If you keep trying you'll get there.

Hi. being an alcoholic I identify and respond with a favorite expression: You never have to feel this way AGAIN if we don't pick up the first drink. Simple though not always easy. I and millions have been helped by attending AA meetings even if we didn't want to. It's a matter of how soon do we want to feel better and learn about our dis-ease. BE WELL

I found I could not do (quitting drinking) it alone either--I tried on my own & always fell back in the bad habits. I finally gave my all & surrendered. I went to AA, got a sponsor, worked the Steps & go to meetings..at least 3 times a week. Over 2 years clean & sober. It's work, but so was drinking....You don't have to go it alone...

I came to a point where I was willing to do whatever it took to have better. I became so aggravated with myself and all of my habits, that I just said "Enough!" and it's been 11 days so far. This is the longest time in years for me. I'm going for it! You should too! Just let it all go. Realize that the pain of detox is worth it, and doesn't compare to all of the damage that came with a life of alcoholism. No comparison. Ponder rested mornings without a hangover, traveling to your destination of choice, working the job you dream of, having peaceful relationships, and so much more. Give it a go! If you really want sobriety, you'll do what you have to to get it!

Hi Missinglife

If you haven't looked through these links, I recommend it:

There's many different approaches and methods of recovery around - here's some links to some of the main players:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...formation.html

I recommend you visit the Secular Connections forum if you think you may benefit from a non 12 step approach.

There's also other options - seeing your Dr, or a counselor, or inpatient or outpatient rehab. The Salvation Army runs free rehab programs in many parts of the States.

Until you start looking at options like these, unappealing as I'm sure they are - I'm not sure you can say you've done 'everything'?

It boils down to how much are you prepared to do to change things?

Hi, looking back over your posts from several weeks back you have been having a tough time putting a couple days together.

Any program to treat alcohol and drug addiction depends first on the willingness for the person to put down the first drink or drug...only then recovery can begin...otherwise you are just relapsing, or binging, and your disease is in active mode,

and like that, yes, everything you try will fail.

Get some specific help...you know what you need to do.

AA worked for me. I couldn't just "Try" it, I had to do it, my life depended on it. Pray you work it with a sponsor.
