Here goes nothing... Day one!
Well i'm taking the plunge and quitting alcohol. I've been trying and talking about it for awhile, but always come up with yet another excuse or justification to continue. Tried quitting cold turkey a couple weeks ago, that about killed me (litterally). I went to my doc to tell him my problem. He prescribed me ativan. I actually had the dang prescription here and wouldn't take it because I knew I couldn't drink. No more! I've started taking my meds and today will be the first day of sobriety. Thank you very much for the support on this website and especially my chat room friends! If it wasn't for a kick in the butt by a few in particular that went out of their way for me I probably wouldn't be doing this and would be just another day getting drunk. You guys are awesome! Bear with me whining for a little longer lol. Long road ahead wish me luck.

Been there, wavering, back and forth. It gets much easier when you finally make up your mind and find you really want to quit.
The Ativan will make the withdrawals much easier but be very careful with them, take them only as prescribed and don't take them for an extended period of time. They do work wonders short term but all benzos can be addictive and cause their own problems

Made it! One full day down! Some pinapple juice, an orange , some ativan, vitamin b and here goes number 2. Sleeping wasn't the greatest last night. Only had a few moments of fog/shakes durning day yesterday. All in all not terrible. Here comes #2.
Big congrats! Be patient with yourself, especially if you have bouts of insomnia or moodiness. Remember all thing are impermanent - even the worst of moments will pass. They always do if you just give them a little time.
And no matter what, don't let yourself get bored! One thing I was taught in outpatient rehab was to make a schedule that completely fills your day and then stick to it. Might be worth consideration.
Congrats on day one and good luck on day two.
