What is the AV(alcoholic voice)?
I read on here people referring to their AV or alcoholic voice. I was wondering what that is exactly. Is that when you feel good and you forget about your problem with drinking which causes you to consider drinking?
It's the voice tht says
It wasnt that bad
One can't hurt
Just tonight then I'll get back on track
Everybody does it, what's the big deal
Next time just be more careful
You deserve it
Etc etc etc etcetc etc

Addictive Voice Recognition Technique® (AVRT®) is described as the simple lore of self-recovery in a very basic, no-guff no fluff format. The AV is defined as any thought or feeling that supports drinking or using, now or in the future.
Here are some of my favorite personal examples of my Addictive Voice:
*I can't quit drinking 'just like that'.
*I am out of control and helpless
*I am scared to death of quitting drinking. How could I possibly survive without alcohol?
*If I could quit or control my drinking, I would have done it long before this
*If I could quit, I certainly can't quit now.
*It's genetic, look at my father and my uncles. No wonder I drink.
*I can never do this on my own.
*I have a disease which will get worse and worse.
*Even if I quit for a little while, I will relapse time after time.
*I will never 'recover' from alcoholism
*I will always be in danger of losing control and drinking.
*I will need to be constantly on guard.
*It will take an Act of God for me to stop, and the most I can ever hope for is to quit for one day at a time.
*I am a worthless POS, and I need to drink to numb this thought or I will lose my mind.
AVRT is an insight into addiction that places you in control of your decision to drink or use. More info at the Rational Recovery website (I recommend the free crash course), and in our Secular Connections forum.
