hi HockeyGuy

It wasn't tricks that did it for me, I'm afraid...I really had to make a lot of changes to my life, cos drinking permeated every single part of my life.

I really needed to find sober support too - and I know you'll find a lot of that here.

There's a whole range of other support available too from AA to non 12 step groups and ideas.

It's really down to what you're prepared to do, I think
Welcome aboard

D

When I found recovery AA was the only the only 'program' available so I
went and I of\\found some great groups of folks that were already doing
what I 'wanted' to do so I asked them how?

They gave me the Big Book, told me to start reading it and to come back to
another meeting. So I did what they suggested and I went to 90 meetings
in 90 days, actually ended up doing about 90 or so a week, lol I was so
afraid of doing 'it' wrong, lol Got a sponsor and started to listen to her sort
of, and all of a sudden I was 90 days sober. What? How did I do that? Well
by then, even though I hadn't had a drink in 90+ days, I would still get the
'cravings', sometime several times a day, sometimes it felt like it was all
day, however, I just didn't want to give up those 90 days, especially since
I had literally died getting sober. My story is in the 'stories' section of this
site.

Now as to your quitting. PLEASE, PLEASE do not try and detox alone! Please check with your doctor, or with any doctor if you do not have one. IF you insist on detoxing by yourself, at home alone, please have someone stay with you. I request this, as detoxing from alcohol can be
deadly! As Dee74 or a few others on here, or myself.

Welcome to Sober Recovery. You really have found a GREAT place to post and read, as we have many many folks that have been where you are now or have been where you are now. And these Great folks are more than willing to share their Experience, Strength and Hope (ES&H) with you
as it is one of the means that many of us use to stay sober.

So, please continue to post and let us know how you are doing, as we do
care so much. Feel free, to ask questions, rant, rave, scream, cry and yes
even laugh. We are now walking with you in spirit. When you get those
down moments, and yes you will get them in the beginning, picture what-
ever room you are in FULL of us folks from Sober Recovery. It does help!

I am very glad you have found us, and I can personally tell you that if you
stick with sobriety, you will find a way of life that you never dreamed was
possible!!!

Love and hugs,
