Day 4 abstinence, used benzos to quit, help
Ok, So ive been drinking heavily most nights for the past couple years, about 4 months ago I stated drinking every night, within the las three months its been pretty much all day, everyday. I could get through an 15-18 pack of PBR in a day. During the early hours I was shaking sweating, couldnt sit still until my 2nd or 3rd drink
Anyway I had my last drink 5 days ago, but I used a ridiculous amount of benzoes to quit, like 5mg of Klonopin a day, now on day four im cuttin back to 2 1/2 mgs a day tomorrow, 1 1/2, then complete cessation (probably still use seroquel for sleep
So, based on my experience with addiction, the benzos were simply a GABA replacement and once they're gone im gonna withdraw all over again, seem a reasonable conclusion?
any non narcotic meds I can use to get thru the few days after I run out of benzos?

But it all depends if you used benzo's on a regular basis before. If you just used them this week to help you with the alcohol withdrawal, the chance of having a benzo withdrawal after a week of use is extremely small.
You will not have an alcohol withdrawal all over again, as benzo's don't work on exactly the same GABA receptors as alcohol.

First, talk to you doctor. Second, a five day run on benzos shouldn't set you up for much withdrawal, though 5 milligrams a day is a significant dose. Three, don't beat yourself up about it, most doctors prescribe a benzo for detox to prevent seizures. Four, did you doctor prescribed that dose? Five, a taper for prolonged benzo use is much slower than you are planning, but you have only been on them for days and I wouldn't expect much of a problem.
