a solution?

I found a way of staying sober – which is amazing seeing I never made it past 4 months in over 29 years of alcoholism. Just per change I went to see an alcohol problem councillor and she said something that made me realise just what a selfish b…... I have been in regard to getting loaded whenever I felt the need. She said: “Go home and have a really good look at yourself…. This I did and I did not like what I saw.
Every day that passes without getting drunk is a day that I have respect for myself, which in turn means I can actually like myself – Once I start to like myself I feel better and the urge to drink is never so bad that I can’t handle it.
I am not a victim anymore – I have a choice now and I definitely do not have the right to hurt other people just because I had a bad time in the past.
Kind Regards
Felicia

Re: a solution?

Hi Felicia.

I am 28, and an alkie.

Good for you, and that advice makes perfect sense !

I had a difficult time looking in the mirror and having respect for the person I saw.... Too many broken promises, too many mistakes etc.. Staying sober is changing my mood these days and I do like myself better... I live one day at at time, and don't beat myself up for what happened in the past...

Take Care,

TG28

HEY FELICIA,
WELCOME,I WAS STRUCK BY WHAT YOU SAID,
HERE'S SOMETHING I READ THE OTHER DAY;
BIG BOOK,3RD EDIT. BILL'S STORY...
UNDERSTANDING MYSELF NOW,I FARED FORTH IN HIGH HOPE.
FOR THREE OR FOUR MONTHS THE GOOSE HUNG HIGH.
I WENT TO TOWN REGULARLY AND EVEN MADE A LITTLE MONEY.
SURELY THIS WAS THE ANSWER-SELF-KNOWLEDGE.
BUT IT WAS NOT,FOR THE FRIGHTFUL DAY CAME WHEN I DRANK ONCE MORE.

I KNOW FOR ME,I SAID FOR YEARS,I CAN STOP.TRUTH BE I COULD NOT.
I NEED HELP FROM OTHERS JUST LIKE ME,THAT REMIND ME DAILY
WHAT I CAN DO TO GET WELL.I HOPE YOU HAVE SOME KIND OF SUPPORT GROUP TO HELP YOU ALONG YOUR WAY.
STAY STRONG IN "YOUR" RECOVERY.

Felicia

Way to go. Worked for me as well. Can't change yesterday, can't know what tomorrow brings till it gets here, so that leaves... live today. Yup one day at a time.

Congratulations
