Do You Believe That
Do I believe that alcohol will always have the same disastrous effect on me?
Absolutely.
Do I believe I'm the same person I used to be as a drinker?
No.
I've reconnected back with my authentic self, I've embraced life and responsibility. I've grown.

Oh, yeah, I have no problem self-identifying as an alcoholic. Well, not here, anyway, lol...
I'll never drink again—and I am incredibly grateful for that in both good times and bad—but I also know I could not drink without reactivating the obsession. I'm like a packet of instant addiction; just add two ounces of booze, and poof!
And for me it's not a question of belief. I scientifically proved it to myself. And then I proved it to myself some more. And a few more times after that. And then for a couple years after that...

Wow, I might as well wrote that post.
To me, alcoholic is what I was when I was physically addicted to alcohol.
I do not intend to drink ever again.
I am quite certain that my body would become addicted I.e. alcoholic again in a very short period of time were I to put alcohol in my system, based on previous and numerous at home trials and experiments.

Certainly...but the alcoholism is in remission and I have a recovered.
But like many other diseases I can't use the substance that caused it. I choose a life to help other recovering alkies, and to others in the throes of the disease.
As one might identify themselves with other illnesses I have no problem doing that with alcoholism, like diabetic, cancer survivor.
