Hi all,

Although I wouldn't consider myself a pro like some here, i decided to quit drinking yesterday. It dawned on me that i was not having side effects from meds, but bad hangovers. Ive only been drinking for 4 months, initially to get to sleep at night. Then it got earlier to ease anxiety. Yesterday was miserable in that I couldn't hold food or water down. Today I feel less nauseous and I can drink water. Havent tried food yet. I went to hard liquor since it was cheaper than beer. I'm not tempted to drink but I know my anxiety will resurface. Would anyone know of anything over the counter to relax someone who is used to about 6 to 7 shots a day?

Walk.

Maybe you have a stomach bug and its just coincidence you happened to stop drinking. Just a thought and of course dont drink! Hope ya feel better. As to your question about OTC meds to help you relax, I would be careful of experimenting right now. See your Dr. about your anxiety to avoid getting into the self-medicating problem I did for severe anxiety. And always remember to be honest about how much and often you drink to doc. And NEVER let them prescribe xanax, valuim, klonopin or any other benzo for anxiety, there are plenty of non-addictive meds that can help.

welcome Plissken :)
A lot of us seem to suffer from anxiety in the initial stages - it's a common part of withdrawal.

You find a lot of support here :)

See your Dr if you're really concerned.

No pros here on anything, but a bunch of alcoholics and those with problems with alcohol. We support each other and give a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen. Those who have been sober for decades need those who have been sober even a day as much as the other way around.

Walking is a good suggestion. I used that often when I had withdrawal - induced panic attacks coming up.
