Decided on a way to mark 1 year
Hello all,
On Monday I will finally be able to say that I've achieved one year of sobriety.
I think that's it's important to use rituals to mark the passage of time so I've been reflecting for a while on how I plan to mark the day. At first, I had the idea of getting a tattoo (I already have several) but something about that seemed wrong. It occurred to me why: a tattoo is permanent. What have I done to deserve something permanent? No matter how I might fail in the future, that tattoo would stay as a mark of achievement. I could erase the gains made by sobriety with a single drink but the ink would stay as a sign of strength I would no longer deserve.
So I have another plan. On Monday I will by myself a ring. Silver. I will wear it on my right hand as a reminder that although the ring is beautiful and I can be proud of it... it can easily be slipped off.

Thanks all! For the record I don't mean to judge anybody who does get a tattoo! For me personally, I don't think I deserve it at the moment. I do see the appeal of having a reminder you cannot change on your body (this is the idea behind some of my other tattoos in fact.) xo
