My life was so related to Denzel Washington character in this movie. I was fascinated by the performance and demonstration of all the suffering and denial of an alcoholic. I felt like the character many times. Any others felt the same when watching this movie?
Honestly, not really. Whip was far more successful in life than I am. Also booze seemed to have the opposite effect on me. While flying the plane, he's cool, collected and breezily humorous; all things I was most certainly not when I was drunk. Finally, my habit was different than his. I would never, ever drink in the morning (if I was working that day, weekends were a different story) and definitely not before some big meeting.
That being said there were parts that resonated, particularly the destruction of his relationships because of booze and getting messy, sloppy drunk by himself watching TV.
That said it's a great movie about alcoholism, just Whip's life and addiction were different from mine.

I enjoyed the movie Flight and related quite a bit to Denzel Washington. I flew F-15's in the military for years & often had to steady my nerves in the morning. It's scary what could of happen & perhaps I could have been arrested for Flying A Military Jet Under The Influence.

Yup. Especially the part with the mini-bar. Not that I've ever done that but I related to the total insanity of getting wasted even in the face of serious consequences (he is going to court the next day).

Spoiler alert.... Don't read if you haven't seen the movie.....
The part in the movie I identified with the most was the last scene where Denzel was in jail, talking to the other inmates. I've not personally been in jail, but I definitely related to him when he said he was locked up, and that it was "fair"......he said he was locked up behind bars .... and he never felt "freer" in his life ( or words to that effect). That hit a nerve with me.

I watched the movie last night in my hotel room. I invited a coworker over to watch it with me. He totally did not like/get it. He kept asking, "what the hell is wrong with him? Why can't he just stop for even a night?" I told him it was because he was an alcoholic, but he still didn't get it....
I on the other hand totally "got it", and could relate to the character. I too have never been a beligerent drunk. Never blacked out, and could pretty much function as "normal" even when very intoxicated. I'm also very successful career wise...
However, I could also relate to him on the relationship side. My wife didn't/hasn't left me yet, but I'm pretty sure she might if I start drinking again.... And my daughters still absolutely adore me, but who knows how they'll feel when they got older if I'm getting hammered nightly? I can not even imagine being a disappointment to my daughters...
To sum it up, I saw A LOT of myself in the character, and I'm glad that I recognized the problem WAY before he did...
