Aa
As you can see by my join date I have been around SR for a while now. That said I can honestly state that no not everyone here utilizes AA as their program of recovery. There are many different roads to recovery just as there are many different types of people the key is finding the one that will work for you personally.
AA happens to be the program that I had success with and still use nearly 12 years later but I have people I consider friends here at SR that use other programs or methods of recovery that I consider just as sober and just as recovered. I think what is most important is that a person find a solution to the problem of alcoholism rather than the recovery method or program they utilize. It is like looking at a map that shows a place you really want to go to as well as a bunch of different roads. Some roads lead to dead ends, some lead to where you are wanting to go, some will get you there in less time, some take more time, some take the same amount of time, some you would get lost if you tried to follow the road. So what we do is pick the road that we think will get us there and if we find that one gets us lost or doesn't get us there then we have a choice we can give up or try a different road. I kept picking roads until I found one that would get me to sobriety. AA is just a road like many other recovery programs.

Im not using AA. I had tried it, but then realised its not for me. Been sober a couple of days, after a relapse from being 3 months sober.
As previously stated, there are all sorts here, AA plus those who use secular programs and those that use no program at all. Everyone's welcome as far as I can tell.

Over a month sober without AA. I think that not wanting to join a "group" is a large motivator for staying stopped with me. I like my world and id like to remain in it, only sober from now on. Whatever works, right!

i am an AA guy.
after trying everything possible, every book onthe subject, psychotherapy, addictions counsellor, moving, psychiatrist, SR, moderation, You name it i troed it but nothing stuck until i committed to AA.
If someone says AA wasnt for them please asked if they fully worked the program. The complete program,, not just sat in a seat. Get a sponsor and work the steps.
The steps are what saved my life from being an everyday drinker.
It really does work.
and i did resist it for a long time too.
