One Full Month

Hey everyone, when I first came to this forum about a month and a half ago, I was desperate to quit drinking and for the first week of being here, I sat at home drunk, and read some of the posts, and realized that alot of you guys were like me. I decided I was going to give it my hardest effort this time, because obviously like most of you guys, I tried many times without success. I am now writing this with a FULL month of sobriety under my belt. I couldn't be happier right now not only am I not spending the extra money, but I'm not waking up every morning and feeling like I was run over by a bus. For you guys that are trying to quit, I believe what helped me alot was drinking water. When I felt the urge to drink, I grabbed a bottle of water and drank that, plus water has so many benefits unlike alcohol. It IS possible guys, don't give up! You can beat your alcohol addiction!

This is a very big thing, mate.

A full month is a massive step, and has set you up for being sober now for the rest of your life.

If you are anything like me, your first month has not been easy, but you have learned a lot about yourself, and feel very positive about the future.

From now, you are going to have to dig in and continue. There will be times where you feel like drinking, but you are just going to have to mover past them.

This is a serious achievement and you are well on the way to recovery.

Thank you everyone, it means alot.

@2granddaughters - I actually quit by myself, and I would say my method is drinking alot of water, as I said in the original post, it makes me feel really good, and when I feel good, I don't feel the need to drink. Drink water + Keep busy = success for me. I've tried hard in the past but never this hard, and it's paying off. My kidneys aren't hurting anymore, and haven't been since I stopped, that's my motivation, my health.

Thanks, Dean. Everyone here is looking for the way out. Letting folks know what's working/not working for us is very important.

All the best.

No problem. It really works well, and having a good support system is key as well. You guys are my support system! I have friends in RL that support me as well, but reading posts here helps alot to remind me why I stopped drinking.
