Sober Holiday Locations

Hi folks, what are your favourite holiday locations?

Since you have been sober, did you find you are attracted to different types of vacation spots or have managed to go to the same tourist locations without drinking.

I have a week's holiday coming up, so any ideas or locations would be great

P.S Appreciate this might be a dumb idea for a thread, but seems to me that in my first few months of sobriety I probably need to avoid certain holiday locations that are just known for partying (boozing), but unfortunately these are the locations I would normally visit, so a bit of help from others who have tackled this problem would be helpful

Salt Lake City?

Muslim countries that prohibit alcohol?

LOL, just kidding. If you google "sober vacations" and "sober travel" or similar phrases, there are a few places that specialize in vacations that emphasize recovery. If you just want a vacation that doesn't include a lot of drinking spots, how about something outdoorsy? If you (like me) aren't that outdoorsy, consider a vacation that focuses on some interest you have--take a writing workshop or check out a resort with art classes or something.

Anything special you like to do?

Thanks Lex, some good ideas that, I hadnt thought of one of those learning style holidays. I quite like the idea of learning how to become a porn star, so maybe i can find something along those lines

hmmm, well maybe not, but an activity holiday might be good. I will update the thread if i find anything interesting.

What's Salt Lake City like anyway?

New Orleans, Las Vegas... no, just kidding, though I have been there sober...

I am an outdoors vacation kinda guy... fishing, skiing, cycling, canoeing, camping... all are better sober, without exception... though I didn't think they would be.

i like the idea of hunting tigers from the back of an elephant, or perhaps harpooning whales in the artic, or tracking down the Yeti.

Not sure about vegas, seems too predictable, gambling is exceptionally boring and whoring cant be much fun if its so easy.

maybe a week in a sumo wrestling training school?

How about Lapland? You can do ski-ing/snowboarding/northern lights tour/snowmobiling/husky rides.perfect time of year and loads to do.you won't even think of drinking

I think it's a great thread idea btw. I've relasped twice on hols after 6 weeks sober so can be a very dangerous time

Hi Ready, well the problem is, im currently in Asia (well India) and was thinking of having a holiday somewhere out here before i head back to Europe. Kind of cheaper while im here i guess.

But using my old drinking brain, id end up in Bangkok, out till 6am each morning.. Which would be OK, if I wasnt drinking for the entire time.

i quite like the idea of learning how to ride a horse... hmm, or maybe sailing might be fun, but i guess they just drink rum on boats

P.S Lapland is a bloody great idea if i was in Europe, im vaguely tempted to wait till i get home and then take some hols instead of doing it from here...
