Paracetamol okay?
Paracetamol okay?
Happy new year folks. I was wondering what you think about pain relievers like paracetamol? Do you think its OK to take it?
I haven't been sick for something like five years and I've almost never taken a pain reliever in my life but I've been running a fever for many days now and I'm starting to worry. I'm going to see a doctor in the mourning but I was thinking of taking some to reduce the fever and hopefully getting some sleep.
A bad idea?

Look I'm not looking for medical advice, millions of people take paracetamol when running a fever. I am just asking from advice from the addictive point of view. You think paracetamol would be a threat for your sobriety?
Just wondering, I'll probably not take it unless I can't get any sleep.

Hi Artoro
the reason we're leery about medical advice is there's no one answer for everyone. People with liver problems shouldn't take paracetamol/acetaminophen for example.
If, on the other hand, you're asking will taking a couple of paracetamol change your sobriety date...personally, no I don't believe it will

Yeah, I think the issue is that we don't have that in the US.
Paracetamol is basically tylenol, over the counter stuff right?
If it doesn't have addictive properties, I take over the counter pain medicine all the time. Getting old. Getting a good nights sleep is crucial for my recovery.
Never heard of an aspirin, etc addiction.
I have heard recently about people with a benadryl problem, which I suppose is from misuse. It is an anti histamine, but often used for the side effect of drowsiness.
But I digress.
IMHO over the counter is generally ok,
If you have an unusual situation, ask your doctor.

I have no problem taking paracetamol for pain from an addiction point of view as it doesn't alter your mental state.
We can get over the counter codeine here jn Australia so I don't think all over the counter is ok (for me anyway) but paracetamol, ibuprofen, etc all ok.

Ok thanks guys. Yes paracetamol is a mild analgesic, over the counter stuff, but I was just a bit worried because I normally don't take such stuff and really don't know what it does to you. So thanks for the answers.
