Naltrexone anyone? I was addicted to opiates and binge drinking (heavily) until December 1, 2012. I'm now on day 32 of complete sobriety. Very unfamiliar for me, but completely quitting alcohol is the most challenging thing for me. I was able to quit the opiates with the help of a doctor and now that I am clean, my doctor prescribed Naltrexone. I guess my doctor wants to help me prevent relapse on either substance. Does anyone out there have any experience with or opinions about Naltrexone (AKA Revia, Depade, Vivitrol)? |
I've never used it but I know other members have, Outfielder :) |
Great avatar Dee! thanks. |
i took it early on but dont think it helped me. i kept on drinkin and i did feel the effects. |
I'm on Naltrexone, been on if for a couple months. It's different for everyone, but I find it easier to control my cravings with it. I notice when I went off it and started drinking that the drinking urges were super-intense... Things are pretty good at the moment though. There is no magic pill, though. It won't stop urges and it won't stop you from talking yourself into drinking :( Even in the info about the drug they don't recommend that you use it alone for quitting, they recommend you use it in conjunction with some sort of program. AA, AVRT, Docs, whatever it is :) |
I'm also on Naltrexone and I think it's a helpful tool used with other strategies. I do work the steps of AA, have a sponsor, go to meetings, have a committment also. |
