Does food sober you up?

People often say that eating food does not remove any of the alco currently in the blood stream but once I eat something I sober up about 70%, it may be mind over matter but that is how it works for me.

No, and neither does coffee. Total myths.

I just gotta ask how you came up with 70%? You feel 70% more sober?

Food, especially high in fat or protein, do slow the absorption of alcohol into the intestine, but it has to be done before eating...and it slows it down just a touch. But frankly, if you're downing a bottle of vodka, a half pound of chicken wings in your stomach is going to do nothing for you.

Time is the only thing that sobers people up. Period.

If food sobered us up, then hospitals and detoxes could simply be replaced by buffet restaurants.

I can't really remember... it's been nearly a quarter of a century since I was drunk.

So old now I can't remember todays supper with great accuracy.

All the best.

For a time, I found eating pizza before drinking helped me get drunk slower. But then came the day, I wanted to get drunk fast and I would eat less than usual before drinking.

i think it might slow the alcohol absorption, but your body will absorb the alcohol in the end.

There are some studies that show if someone eats beforehand it's possible for the rate of absorption to be slowed.

Afterwards? The only thing that will sober up a drunk is time. Not coffee, food of any kind, eating a banana whilst standing on one's head... none of those will "work".

Time. And since it's over 2 years since I had my last drunk I no longer have to worry about this at all any more.

I ate things that came back up without pain...like bananas, and oatmeal. Tastes the same too!

Drinking water, Gator Aid will help with the hangover by replacing the bodily fluids and electrolites. At least, that's what hear.

One of my drinking slogans was, "Why screw up a $20 drunk by eating a two bit meal?" Those days are long past though. Now I eat anything that walks, talks, crawls or has been dead for less than 12 hours.....lol.

having trouble finding the 'recovery' angle on this one, so I think we'll leave it there.
