Day one

I have decided that I have a serious problem drinking and need to stop. I have drank every night for the past 2-3 months. I can't stop w 3 beers it's always 7-12. I have anxiety and I seem to use it as medicine. It's a stupid cycle of shame in the morning depressed in the day and make myself feel better at night. I have kids and am being a bad example. Got anti anxiety meds that should help. Can anyone recommend any reading material? No AA near me. Heard of a book by Allen Carr anyone know of it? Wish me luck I'm going to need it.

It won't be easy..
And it will take time.
Keep in touch with your doctor.
You will get there,,,,

I recommend 'sober for good'.

Discusses multiple ways people used to get and stay sober.

Welcome to the family, karadawn. I hope you find SR as helpful as I did. Being here helped me stop a 30 year drinking career. Not sure I would've made it without the support I found here. Glad you've decided to make this big change - you'll never regret it.

The reading material that helped me a lot was simply reading lots of posts on here.
Lots of experience and wisdom. You'll quickly see that you are not alone and also that we can and do get better.
Welcome!

Day three much easier for some reason! :) read books to kids laughed a lot more. Definitely got irratated around 4 and had headache but feeling less down. Super nervous to be around certain friends I dont want to make a big deal about me being sober but if I'm too chill I might give in.
Ordered Allen Carr's book that I think will be helpful.

By the way hi Tomb I hope your night is going easy.

Hi Karadawn,

AA has been the only thing that has kept me sober for as long as I have been now (and trust me I tried every other avenue first!). Maybe it can work for you. There are AA meetings everywhere in the country. If you want you can message me and I can try to help you find a particular meeting somewhere to go to. Good luck!

Karadawn 12-17-2012 08:21 PM

I called local AA it's 30 miles away :( kind of far and I have 3 kids. I do like having this to go to on my iPhone but real people would be nice too! I may have to try going to a meeting if I start feeling panicky again.

I understand. I'll probably be running into the same situation when I go travel to see my family next week. I'm going to try to find a meeting on my way to their house. The beauty of AA is that you can go anywhere in the country and you will always be welcomed by everyone in there. This forum is a great resource as well.
