nothing left at 44......
I tried to end my misery 22 yrs ago,
then family intervened and got me
the help I needed so desperately at
that time in my life. I was 30 yrs.old
then and now in my mid 50's and feel
and look as young as I possibly can.
A program of recovery beginning with
Step One and building a solid foundation
to live upon each sober day.
Today is a gift. Each day I breath sober
is a gift and not to be taken for granted.

YES, to everything that has been said.
Just one more thought. For those of us with depression issues this time of year can get to us, even when we are taking meds. For some people it may be the holidays that give them the blues, but i know for me it's the short/dreary days. Lack of Sun can have a very profound effect on people's moods.
So, no matter how bad things feel and appear, at least consider that it might partly be lack of Sunshine which makes things seem darker and more hopeless than they are. Yes, see the dr, yes stop drinking, yes stick close to recovery, but also tuck it into the back of your mind that the winter blues have a hold on you, and you are not seeing things as they really are.

pete, i just wanted to say that for every post on here that said "i was there", "i know how you feel", "you can get through this", etc. there are many more posts that you will never read from the people alcohol has taken. When you stop and look at your life, you may see nothing, that is ok. I can guarantee you that there are gifts around you everyday. Your addiction/disease has robbed you of your ability to see them is all. Give it a shot, see your doctor, hang around here and keep opening up. Sharing our stories is how we gain our strength back and inspire others. Hell, you might even learn something aboout yourself If it makes you feel any better, my shittiest day sober is still better than my best day drunk and depressed. God be with ya, buddy.
