Larry Hagman (aka J.R. Ewing) died today

One of my favorite actors who played the part of a heel perfectly in "Dallas." He had a liver transplant back in 1995 due to cirrhosis caused by years of heavy drinking (consumed up to 5 bottles of champagne while on set).

Not sure if this thread belongs here, but just thought I'd post the news about another talented person's death affected by alcoholism.

P.S.- It wasn't me who shot J.R.

He was brilliant as J.R. And apparently was never an aggressive drunk. It is hard to imagine how he was able to perform so well on that amount. Then again, I was drinking 4 bottles of wine by the end of my drinking, and didn't even feel intoxicated.. Goes to show how the tolerance can build up.

Absolutely. At the very end of my drinking, I had lethal amounts of alcohol in my blood and was able to function somewhat normally (i.e. not slurring, falling down on my face, etc.) So it's quite common to build up a tolerance after many years. not something to be proud of, for sure.

RIP LH

Before his death, Larry Hagman had been sober for many years. He quit alcohol and cigarettes cold turkey and became a staunch advocate for sobriety. "I dream of Jeanie" was such a sweet show.

He had 20 years of sobriety. Another source said 22 years..... Only Larry truly knows.

The liver is pretty resilient...but only to a point.
The sooner we stop, the better our changes are pmungo.

Probably best to leave this thread for those who want to pay their respects then...
