Still on the wagon..
3 and a half weeks of drinking now :/
Getting fed up of it, there is NO help available on the NHS.
Cut down they say, they just don't understand thats not possible.
I'm at the end of my tether.

Have you had a drink today?
I presume the weather is pretty horrible there.
Forget everything you think you know and just stop drinking today.
Have you been drinking a lot?
Do you live alone?
Can you go to a doctor tomorrow and discuss withdrawal?
It can be dangerous to withdraw without medical supervision.
Read around here and join in and post.
Ask questions.
Do not have a defeatist attitude.
You can do this. We all were there. We are at different stages.
It can be done.
No hopeless cases.

Have you told them you want to stop drinking? I think sometimes they shy away from saying it because it tends to make the average alcoholic panic.
Tell them directly that you want to stop completely and need help with withdrawals. Tell them you cannot cut down. The NHS care for alcohol and drug addiction seems to be client led and they will help you if you tell them what you want.
I'd recommend popping along to an AA meeting too. I met other people there who had been through the same services I had and their knowledge was really helpful.
Are you going to any groups through the NHS? x

Can you see another doctor in your practice, and say you want to do a 'Home Detox'? This means they put you on medication to stop the craving, and ease the craving. I couldn't have stopped without that.
Meamwhile, perhaps you could ask about going to a de-tox unit. Again, it helped me a lot.

Hi,
I have detoxed a couple of times. I started drinking again after almost two months sober and it is now day one for me today although I had half a bottle of vodka this morning.
Join me in the morning. Its hell as you know for three or four days. Get lots of pain killers, juice, nice drinks, treats, boiled sweets etc. Perhaps we can check in on each other on here. Wish me luck, I wish you well.

you really need help and support to get through this, ive tried on my own and still failing to stop. dont admitt defeat, the whole fact you are on this site proves you really want to do this, some times you have to explore what help is out there and play around with is see what suits and works for you, some things that works for some does not work for others, and as you are doing hence you are here ask around. cus i went to my doctor confesed all my drinking sin broke down and every thing, bigest mistake, now i have a lable and a record set in stone, also went through nhs mental squad, they really just didnt get it, so i went on the net, found this site, and others shopped around, if you go on midlands today news web site type in addiction they have links to other sites that help. there is free help out there, hope this helps

If Albmwman has detoxed twice already, it is already on record.
When dealing with something this serious, we have to put ourselves out there to get help.
This does have drawbacks, but I think we can regain that ground once we are sober.
Just accept that the first few days is really, really hard, and get to the other side, and then work some form of program to stay stopped.
It is hard to know what to say. It just always seems like we don't "get it".
Been there, done that and had to, "just do it!"
It was hell. I am sorry.
But I am off drink for 2 years now.
Please keep trying.
It will happen, if you just keep plugging away.

Don't drink tomorrow and go to your doctors. They can check you over and give you advice. Like Holly said, it will be unpleasant for a bit, there is no way round that. Once you have been to the docs phone up the AA helpline and go to a meeting. Or a SMART meeting. Make a commitment and stick to it. Having help and support is vital x

You have a had a few drinks today but today is almost over. Stop drinking now and have tea or water instead. Tomorrow, go and buy lots of water, pain killers, fruit, sweets, icecream, anything you like. Treat yourself, you are going to detox like me, you and everyone else has in the past.
I have a bad headache and the hot flushes, sweats now. I havnt had a drink since this morning. It is not too bad. No pangs for alcohol because I want to stop. I am very hot. Join me, go to hospital if you have any doubts.
In 5 days, you and I will be over the worst of it.
