The logistics of beer
Did some yard work today sober. It was so productive!
Not need to drive 2 miles to the store, go in, choose a brand for the occasion, buy it, get it in the truck, drive back, bring it in the house, unpack, put in fridge to get it nice and cold, bring a couple outside, start working, drink, run out, back in the house for more, repeat 24 times back and forth, finish the work, pick up empties, bring them back in the house, store them, next day take them out, back in the truck..... Never ends!!! So not productive!
I drank water from my garden hose instead ;-)

It's not about the alcohol. It's about the alcoholism. I couldn't stand to live in my own skin without self-medicating to feel ok. The alcohol was my solution to living in my own skin and being ok in this world....
Clancy says it well on Stories of Recovery dot org in his talk "Disease of Perception."
Yes, I went to many great lengths to get some relief.

I had a moment after I had finished renovating our old garage & shed this Summer (took me about two months of hard work), I actually thought about sitting down with 'a beer' as a pat on the back afterwards. Then I thought about how; none of it would have gotten done had I not quit drinking. Twisted thinking.
