Accountability Group?

Would anyone be interested in making/joining an accountability group? Is this even a good idea? A place to encourage each other on our own strategies and help each other stay accountable for their behaviour and stick to their decisions? To help remind each other why we are here and we we are changing our lives? Thoughts anyone?

There are meetings of recovering alcoholics all over the place, Windancer, and sure to be some close and convenient to you. Are you thinking of something different than AA meetings?

I think accountability is great. I just don't know how achievable it is in an anonymous setting like an online forum.

One of the strengths of face to face support, such as what AA provides, is that it can provide accountability.

Are you opposed to AA as a recovery method?

Yes, as I cannot easily attend AA at all. Ive lost my license and live in the country. WAY out in the country. I guess this whole site could be considered an accountability group in a way.

Oh, sorry, not opposed to AA. I just cant get there, and to be completely honest, the meetings I have tried to attend I havent been too impressed with. Maybe I just didnt find the right group though.

I know in the newcomers section there are threads grouped by month for those quitting in a particular month. I'm sure many use it for accountability, support, and so forth. Here's the link for this months class:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...er-2012-a.html

I'm at the stage of my recovery where I'm only accountable to myself, my wife, and my higher power to stay sober. Quite a change from the no-account drunk that I was.

Good luck. I hope you find like-minded SR members to join you.

I like the idea Windancer. I guess I've been using a few threads (November class and 30 days and under) as my own little accountablity groups. The more I read and post, the more I get to know the others and share experiences, all the support they give me (and hopefully sometimes I give), does make me feel accountable to them and honestly that feeling has helped me through these early days. If you started one, I would join.
