I learned that life is not going to be any easier on me just because I decide to stop drinking. Your real sobriety starts (in my humble opinion) the first time you have a crisis or problem in your life that you take the time to work through and solve rather than pick up a drink and "roll on".

The serenity prayer is the most perfect thing about the AA program. It can be used in any situation in life, and given me great peace and helped with many questions and life choices made since my sobriety date.

I've learned that my rockstars and heroes are no longer those who garner a full house when they play, or who are front and center in the limelight. It's the quiet steady souls who come to meetings or share in sober victory who keep doing it and keep on keepin' on.

At the meeting where I accepted my 2 year chip, I was surrounded by rock stars. Not just because they do what I do for a living but one has 28 years and one has 25. It was the greatest honor to have them there and very special to be standing between them in the circle at the end. What a gift.

Thanks for the kudos... they really go to God, my two sponsors... I've just done my best to follow directions.

Big congrats, Sunrise. I remember my two year chip, but I let it all go about a month later. The meeting place closed, my sponsor moved out of state, all my friends left. Still need to conquer my little deamon inside. But I'm doing better.

And thank you for that wonderful post. I need to copy that to my desktop. See you in 22 months! ;)
