Good With Out God
I'm curious, it seems so many members here seem to think that god is in control, that "god shots" come in the form of landlords or meetings..is it possible as I have just witnessed in N.Y. that people are just inherently kind? Is it possible to be good without god?
Actually, I know lots of Atheist's and Agnostic's that are wonderfully kind...I've also met plenty of "Christian's who are ugly mean. We are all whom we choose to be regardless of our beliefs.
The one thing here that brings us all together in unity is is our addictions.
I am grateful to everyone, regardless...

As soon as the GOD word is evoked into the dialogue, the whole thing shifts into personal experience and objectivity becomes strained and unexamined.
Having said that, I'm a Christian by faith, and yet my "sobriety" has nothing to do with my Christian observances. My sobriety is not in lock-step with a supernatural being. I began my early sobriety as an agnostic with my own understanding of my wholly internal HP, and I have not discontinued those early understandings, and they have always served me well in my sobriety. If its not broke, why fix it?
Where does good come from? From love and human kindness, working together, no less. Is God love?
That is a question only answered by personal faith, and not by rhetorical discourse and debate, imo.

I do believe that people can be inherently kind. I believe also that god is in each of us. As Robby suggested, words and definitions, when it comes to God, really start to fail us, and worse, start to divide us.
There is a songwriter, from Canada, Bruce Cockburn... Very spiritual guy, not religious, at least in his songs... He wrote a line in a song... Can't quote it, I am on my smart phone... He mentions the 6 billion faces of God... I love that imagery, because it works for me and allows for 6 billion understandings, of God.
One of the most important things I have learned on SR is how people feel so strongly about the existence of God and conversely those who believe, just as fervently, that there is no God. Maybe we are all correct, LOL.

"Like the nine billion names of God
Don't bring you any closer
To anyone you can simply set eyes on."

Thanks Jitterbugg. I don't know if you are chinese or not, but I am the son of two chinese immigrants in Denver. I have been reading the forums for last two months. I am Chinese origin. My parents came from Shanghai in the 80's and of course we have a chinese buffet restaurant. I can not talk to my parents or other chinese people about alcoholism. I help to run the family business but am drinking all the time. I went to AA, but I was not accepted. In China, we don't believe in gods. AA is very religious. I am not sure what to say.
welcome to SR logic
I think there are many ways to get sober...some do involve God specifically, some involve a Higher Power, and some don't involve any spiritual element at all.
here's some links to some of the main players:

I recommend you visit the Secular Connections forum if you think you may benefit from a secular or non 12 step approach
Read about, post as much as you like - good to have you here
