1 year sober

Hi to all you wonderfully people here at SR, well I have made it to 369 days sober and loving life more than I ever could have imagined. The last year has been the longest and most challenging year of my life but it has also been the best and most rewarding at the same time, it has definitely been worth it. I am so thankful to AA, AVRT, Alan Carr, Eckhart tolle and everyone here at SR that is helping each other to recover from alcoholism all these things have made my recovery not only possible but absolutely wonderful. I came here one year ago totally obsessed and sick from drinking every day for 20 years. as my alcoholism progressed over the years the mental obsession grew I would think about alcohol 24 hrs a day and once I had my first drink I could not stop till I felt I could not drink any more which was about 20-30 standard drinks during the week and double that on the weekends. I tried every thing to cut down or stop for a couple of years, but it got to the point where I just lost all control. I have two wonderful boys 5yrs and 3yrs a beautiful wife and a mortgage so I had quite a bit of responsibility, my children are the main reason I decided I had to get sober, I couldn't put my drink down to teach them how to play cricket I couldn't take them anywhere cause I was to drunk to drive I was always so angy at them because I was a angry self centered alcoholic, they deserve so much more, they deserve a loving father who can teach them everything that they need to know in life to be happy and successful. today I can give them exactly that, today I am a loving positive Dad that will do anything for them I am able to drive them anywhere any time, I am so proud that I can say that today. I am 100% happy to be sober today I have learnt how to live sober and to be happy from the 12 steps and the fellowship of AA and Eckart tolles spiritual teachings they are just amazing. today if I'm not working my days consist of surfing, fishing, wake boarding, snorkeling, running, going to the gym, playing with my boys spending quality time with my wife, reading going to AA meetings, my life is so busy that I wouldn't have time to drink if I wanted to.
it has taken allot of hard work to get where I am and I never want to go through it again.
I just wanted to post this to hopefully give any newcomers hope. living sober will change your life and can be absolutely amazing you just have to really want it and work at it.
thanks again to every one here at SR.

Great job Dan and great post.
While I have not been as busy as you, I have made great strides in getting back out into society and the working world.
(and ditto on the first year struggles, my mother had been ill for much of this year and she died earlier this month. I am the executor of estate and would not have been able to handle this living as I was.)

Hoooray!! It just keeps getting better! One day at a time-day by day, as long as you are working toward a sober, balanced healthy life full of integrity and wholeness that is where you will go. Just like a ship, it only heads in the direction it is pointed! Good job!

Thanks Dan and congratulations. Your post did just that, give us all hope. It's just the best thing an AA member can try to do, give the newcomer hope, I love it when I hear that stuff in meetings. I hope you stick with AA (and SR), we need you.
