3 Months of no bourbon? No way!

Way!

After decades of drinking almost every night I'm now totally sober for 3 months today. I was up to about a pint or so of bourbon most every night for years. YEARS! Crazy!

I'm enjoying my new life. Of course there are still temptations. I'm visiting my old drinking buddy this weekend for a football game but don't anticipate any problems. Still other events and triggers to overcome coming up like holidays and such.

I feel better than I have, well, ever! NOT drinking has become the new normal for me.

My only advice is to educate yourself as much as you can on the drug alcohol and do whatever it takes to quit it. Use AA or whatever support group works for you. Listen to the posters here that have been there/done that. Some days are easy and some you just have to gut it out and hold on. Chances are the next day will be easier. My days are easy more often than not now and that is a GREAT feeling.

Good luck to all of us. BJ

Hi BourbonJunkie, I'm about 3 months too.... sobriety date 8/1/12. I also drank whiskey nearly every day, but the Canadian variety. At least a pint every day.
I went to buddie's house to play poker tonight; we have a small neighborhood group that plays ~monthly, rotates around. Well, I survived drinking my coffee, while everyone else was drinking. I felt fine, was offered beer and mixed drinks, but declined; said I quit. THey were all like...."good job". So I proceeded to lose my money and came home. (I used to win more when I was drunk, but tonight I just couldn't get any decent cards.)
It's great being sober, isn't it? Have fun at the football game, and above all, stay sober!

Johnny
