Tell me something that you heard that stuck..
Tell me something that you heard that stuck..
I recently shared this in another thread. I heard a man say, "I have been sober for 14 years, and the longest I ever went without a drink was 24 hours"
Have you heard something that has stuck with you and helped you stay sober??
Have you heard something that has stuck with you and helped you stay sober??
I think the advice that has really helped me and something that luckily stuck, was something about never giving up trying to get sober. After my last relapse I had kind of just given up trying, but in the back of my head I kept hearing that phrase. I didn't actually know how I would "try" again, but since the phrase stuck with me, I did once again give it a shot and with a lot more experience on how not just to stay sober, but enjoy living sober. I prayed nearly every single morning on my way to work for God to help me. I broke a lot of promises to Him.
One day, things just clicked. I know it was divine intervention. It was on His time, not mine.
If you're still drinking and reading this, never stop trying to get sober. Learn something from every experience.

"Aware of the suffering caused by unmindful consumption, I vow to cultivate good health, both physical
and mental, for myself, my family, and my society by practicing mindful eating, drinking, and consuming.
I vow to ingest only items that preserve peace, well-being and joy in my body, in my consciousness, and
in the collective body and consciousness of my family and society. I am determined not to use alcohol
or any other intoxicants, or to ingest foods or other items that contain toxins, such as certain T.V.
programs, magazines, books, films and conversations. I am aware that to damage my body and my
consciousness with these poisons is to betray my ancestors, my parents, my society, and future
generations. I will work to transform violence, fear, anger, and confusion by practicing a diet for myself
and for society. I understand that a proper diet is crucial for self-transformation, and for the
transformation of society."

"I have never regretted not drinking" (when thinking about how I'll "miss out" by not drinking at some event/party/etc very early in recovery). Understanding that I wouldn't wake up thinking "Dang, I wish I would have gotten trashed last night" was some weird learning curve for me, and it stuck. 4 years later I still have never regretted not drinking.
hard to narrow it down to one thing. depends on what i am dealing with at the moment, but the improvised serentiy prayer sticks out right now
God
grant me the serenity
to accept the people i cant change
courage to change the one i can
and wisdom to know thats me.
