bloated face

i've been sober for almost 2 weeks now, but i'm still retaining a lot of water in my face.

can someone give me a sense of when the water retention and facial bloating will go away? i've been drinking tons of water daily with little effect so far.

will it all go away eventually? i really want my face to return to normal

Yeah it'll get better. It took a month for me.

It took me a month last time to sort my bloatedness out!

I have dark circles though, wish they would bugger off!

thanks, great to hear that it will eventually go away.

any way to speed things up? or is simply a matter of patience, waiting, and staying sober?

Exercise!!! Some good aerobic exercise to make you sweat. Provided you make a routine it should help your body normalize water levels. Keep an eye on your sodium intake too!!

Drinking plenty of clean water is essential, but also sweating and getting toxins out is also key. So, as said above - cardio work that gets you sweating for at least 20 minutes - 40 - 60 minutes is ideal.

Also, a hot bath with 5 - 6 drops of an essential oil such as patchouli works wonders as a diuretic. Do NOT do this bath too close to bedtime, because the diuretic properties really work especially if you're drinking plenty of water.

I am not quite at a month sober (very close) and I have noticed less bloat and just clearer skin and eyes. I am looking forward to my journey during month two.

Again, drink plenty of clean water and do things to remove toxins from your body naturally - yoga, sauna, massage, warm bath's with essential oils, body brushing, a cleanse or detox diet for a few days/weeks. Whatever works.

Someone mentioned dark circles - that is toxins hanging on under your skin. See previous paragraph. Lotions and potions don't work - got to remove internal toxins and replace with clean living.

Good luck!

Congrats! The bloating should diminish with time as old sick cells are replaced with new ones and your body recovers. Ditto to others' suggestions. I love watching my puffy baggy eyes start to disappear.

Don't worry it goes away Took about 5 weeks for me. I also had dark circles as well, but those went away quickly. Just keeping hydrating, eat well, make sure you're getting plenty of vitamins, and you'll see it diminish.

It will all get better in time. Odd that I *really* looked like hell about a month out. I'm at the tail end of a body ache phase now. 140 days to get to this point. I'm going to say that it takes me 6 months to physically recover from alcohol abuse. After a year I'll probably say it takes me a year :-)

Point is, it all get's better. Embrace the weirdness!
