jwall378 story

I'll keep it relatively short. I was a very shy and anxious kid. Made it through high school without drinking. Once I got to college, all bets were off. I took my first drink (Bacardi Limon) and was instantly hooked. It let me talk to girls and be sociable. From the time I was 18 until I was 28 I progressed. By the end of my drinking "career" I was drinking a liter of whiskey (or anything else I could get my hands on) everyday. I finally went to detox for a week and then to an IOP for 6 months. I've been sober for almost 6 years now. I am now a functioning member of society, and employable worker, loving husband, and proud father of a son who was born on the night I received my one year coin (no coincidences in AA). In a few weeks, I'll have 6 years of sobriety and my son will turn 5. God willing, he will NEVER see me drunk. That's my story in one paragraph.

You have every right to be proud. Family can be a powerful motivator. Unfortunately, my son saw me drunk nine years ago and I have been sober ever since.

Thanks for sharing your story. Isn't it amazing how life changes for the better when we put down the drink? I honestly don't know how I managed life when I was drinking, being so hung over I couldn't even open my eyes, drinking into blackouts, getting home without remembering how. Eek

Nice to have you here.
