Back again... Sober this time!
It has been awhile since I have posted on SR. I was sober for about a month last year before I relapsed. It started out with a celebratory beer after a long week on the shooting range. Like so many of the stories I've read, this one time event spiraled out of control. Went from just a few beers to killing a 18 pack and still wanting more. Made the switch to high % tall boys and continued my path to rock bottom. My first born son was born May 18th of this year. It sobered me up for about a day until I started sneaking alcohol into the garage and pounding them down while my wife would nurse.
I finally said enough was enough and I stopped drinking July 30th. I stopped cold turkey (don't ever do!). The withdraws were horrible! I am blessed to have made it out of those first few days. I had intense cravings for the first few weeks but coke zero and peach rings helped me through it. The fog is gone and I finally feel like me again. I cannot believe I missed out on the first few months of my sons life because I was drunk. I am so thankful that my loving wife was supporting me through it all.
All in all my life is looking better than ever. I have a new job in the military that has been my dream since I joined many years ago. My wife and I have bought our first house and now our son is keeping us company in it. Thank you everyone for sharing your stories on here. I have been reading them through the withdraws, cravings, and into sobriety.
