soooo

I'm reaching the end of day 2. I went to meetings a few times over the past few years, and they all made me want to drink most of the time. Either they were depressing as fu*k or the person speaking talked about fun times legit. I also went to one big book meeting but there were a handful of guys and it was awkward I guess cuz i wasn't ready. I dunno I'm going to try and go again see how I feel now. Also I'm feeling alot of regret right now, and I feel like I have lost so much time fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccc

There were a lot of times I left meetings wanting to drink more than before I went. But going gave me the strength to not drink. Not only right after the meeting. But for the next few days.
There is a big difference between wanting to drink, and throwing in the towel, and giving in.
It is very easy to forget why we wanted to quit in the first place. Going to AA keeps those reasons fresh in our minds.

AA taught me how to enjoy life without alcohol.
The more I went the quicker I learned..

Think of meetings as classrooms for your new future

AA is not the only way to find your sober future.
Members here are winning over alcohol useing a variety of things.

You to can move forward...
I do hope this will be your time for lasting sobreity..

Yep, my handle is "betterlate" because I lost a lot of time before deciding to quit drinking alcohol too. But the last couple years have been really great without drinking. I feel younger, healthier, more optimistic than I did when I was an alkie. I also lost about 30 lbs. Did I mention my hair got thicker and less grey? Oh and my eyesight improved too. There is a lot to be said for quitting drinking, even for us who "waited forever" before actually quitting.

THe more inolved in AA you get the better it works. Its one of those things that just doesnt make sense until you do it. I remember wondering how the hell the steps were going to fix my problem. Looking back it makes complete sense.
I havent had the desire to drink in 4 years. GO in with an open mind.
Best wishes.

I always used to make a point of avoiding the 'miseryguts' meetings, and just sticking to the positive message ones.

I know very little about AA.

But this...

...I know all about.

Early recovery was tough. It clouded everything I saw. Try not to be too hasty in your judgments right now, that's my advice. Cut yourself some slack, and remember that your body and mind need time to acclimate to this new life of yours. Congrats on two days—you're going to be really glad you persevered through the tough part.

Ive been to a bunch of meetings in my city, and numerous ones in the surrounding cities and towns. Almost every single one is the same. I'm going to try and go again see if the mood is a bit different, my mood.

Username1, congratulations to you on your decision to quit. I'm not in AA, but I know for sure that any recovery method needs your watertight commitment to do everything and anything in order to get sober, and to stay sober.
Maybe if you look at your next meeting in this way, things will click for you. I hope you keep posting, glad you are here.
