My intro post

Hello, everyone. This is such an awesome site. There's nothing unique about my story--I've drunk too much for too long, and I'm an alcoholic. And I want desperately to stop drinking so I can find/make my life again.

Dee's wonderful post, under Public Service Announcement, tells my story, too. I've tried over and over to quit. I've had some periods of not drinking, but I've always given in to a craving or boredom or an empty feeling. I've tried to do this on my own to this point.

Expecting what I've done before to suddenly be the right answer is, of course, insane. I have to do something different this time, and that's why I'm here. I want to feel the support everyone here gives so generously and graciously.

I'm learning so much here, reading and trying to absorb the collective wisdom, and hoping that being part of this community will be the key I've been unable to find so far. Thanks in advance for your help.

I couldn't do it alone, I needed AA to quit drinking. It was the only way I could do it.
I needed to get out of my EGO and give it to God. I let God be the pilot of my life.

Thank you all for your kind welcomes! Today is Day 3 for me, and I'm feeling fine. Historically, my rough spots show up later, so I'll be sure to be here for the long haul.

You folks here give me hope and assurance that I can do this!
