Shout out to AA

Meeting number 3: A lady walked up to me after a meeting and said, “I am here for you… you look like your heart is broken.” It was, but I thought I was looking pretty normal; playing it cool. I asked her why she said it, and she said that she looked into my eyes when I walked in, and she said she saw a broken heart. I cried like a baby, and she is still a great friend. It still amazes me that this sweat lady saw under my “cool” exterior. How awesome is that!!

..and I am not saying AA is the only way, I am just sharing something neat.

Well, Sapling. I do believe there are spiritual experiences going on in AA.

I just hear so many negative AA experiences from people that I wanted to share a positive one that was genuine for me that was heart felt. I know it must be hard for the old timers to deal with new people at times, but there are some really great people in AA.

I agree MetalChick. I have being going to AA for over three months now. And from Day 1 when I sat in my first meeting I felt like I had 'come home'
I have met people who I would never have got to know and the support in my home group is lovely. I am working on Step 2 now and am begining to appreciate all the fellowship has to offer.

I don't hear that much negativity about AA when I'm around AA. It's been my experience that when I hear negativity about AA it's from people that don't know it or don't use it....So I have to take that with a grain of salt. I've seen many miracles in AA....And I'm one of them....That's all the proof I need.

BTW-- cute doggie... Sapling. My doggie is going on 15 years old next month, but he still has a lot of spunk.

Well, he is adorable, sapling. On the dog note. I used to feel bad because I was too drunk or too hungover to take my best friend on a walk, but he is enjoying the sober MC. He gets a walk each day.

There are wonderful people there. The group that I went to has so many kind and caring people in it. I read stories about strange experiences at meetings, but in 8 months I have never experienced anything negative.

What a wonderful woman, MetalChick, and I am happy that you met her. Everyone that I met in AA was a great person too, I was very impressed with such a friendly and welcoming group of folks. I have read accounts here of cliquey standoffish groups but that most definitely was not my experience.

MetalChick-
I so love your point of this thread. To touch someone else, like you were. What an awesome heart you have! Spreading the message and reaching out is the other half of our recovery in AA. Rock on!!
