3rd day sober!

Back again, was here a while back as decided to stop drinking.
Thought gradually cutting down would work :rotfxko didnt listen to any advice what a joke! IT REALLY DOESNT WORK THAT I NOW KNOW.
Gradually worked my way back up to 8-10 beers after work every evening and hanging around with the same old fools.

5 day ago went out with a few friends and woke up with a broken leg, had to sit down A&E feeling like death & have decided enough really is enough.

I used to tell myself I work 6 days a week and run 2 business's "Im not an alcoholic" haha

I Have now spent my 1st 3 days completely dry, the days are good but come the evening now is where it gets hard, getting agitated easily etc.

Would love to walk my dogs burn off some aggression and energy but with a broken leg its not going to happen.

I will not break though atleast I dont have to work having a broken leg so the broken sleep nights are the least of my worries.

Sorry for the meaningless ramble but nice to get off my chest.

And anyone who thinks tapering is an option forget it, as soon as the pain is a bit better im going to heed the advice given 1st time around and join AA.

Over and out

Ouch...I hope your leg heals quickly without complications ..

Please be careful about useing pain medications...
many are addictive and you sure don't want that extra problem.

Check out another Forum....to see what I mean....

Substance Abuse - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information

I did use pain meds when I had broken bones..as prescribed and
tapered off as soon as possible. I did not become addicted.

Another day or so you will most likely notice your initial de tox
symptoms from alcohol ease a bit.

Welcome back.....

welcome back !

It took me a while too, after I had enough, I walked into an AA room and picked up my first ever 24 hours chip in front of a lot of strangers. I was defeated, powerless, shaky, foggy, anxious, tired, worried.... Not anymore !

That was almost 1.5 years ago.

Sorry about your leg, but glad you had the wake up call I tried to cut back on and off for a long time all the while never admitting I was addicted.

It is amazing the things we go through and yet are still unwilling to admit we can't drink...ever. What knuckleheads!

I woke up in jail a few times and thought that drinking beer in place of hard alcohol would fix that issue. Ha!

Your ramble was not meaningless in the least

Take care

Re:3rd day sober.

Welcome back Dean. I wish you a speedy recovery also, hoping your leg heals rather quickly. I can't imagine where my life would of ended up without my sober connection, in A.A. What I do know, though, is how supportive this fellowship has been to my sobriety ever since. I forever grateful for the time they spent healing me, and I hope that sentiment bodes well with you for just as long.
