Non-Alcoholic Beer

If I'm just craving the taste of beer. Because I actually do like the bitter taste. Do you guys think it would be okay if I just had a couple non alcoholic Coors Lights after being 3 days sober to kill the taste urge?

I found the bitter taste of sparkling water to be safer I never drank non alcoholic beer because there has been a few threads on this before and people usually advise against it. I found I had to give up tonic water too though. I used to drink a lot of G&T and found the psychological connection to be a bit too much for me. In the end I have decided to avoid anything which reminds me of my drinking days, at least for the time being.

Drink water because it tastes the same as Coors.

I vote too risky also.

Full disclosure: former home brewer and beer snob so let's not get started on a discussion about the nightmarish abomination that is NA beer.

For bitter I like tonic water.

My experience is I don't drink NA beer because it looked like beer, felt like a can of beer, it smelt like beer, it had that same condensation thing on the can like a beer, the same fizz and foam when you pop the can, tasted like beer (kinda)....

Then I'd wonder why I'd go out everytime and get 'real' beer.
I was still knee deep in old behaviours, and didn't even realise it.

As a former beer drinker I know it ticks all the boxes for me, and opens the door to old behaviour and old thought paterns.

I don't recommend it.

I don't need to know but maybe ask yourself why would you choose NA beer when there's so many other things to drink, though?

Is it really the taste of a beer you want, or are there other things happening here as well?

D

I am no expert on this matter as I am trying to stop right now, myself, but an old friend of mine who was an AA member told me once - "Non alcoholic beer is for non alcoholics". That made a lot of sense to me. If that applies to you, perhaps it will help you with your decision. I know it's tough.

I have recovered friends who drink NA beer w/no ill effects. Personally I can never have another beer of any kind again in my life. Club soda is a reasonable non sweet drink.

Depending on where you live, Mexican malt sodas (e.g. Malta Goya) may be an option. These are soft drinks made with malt and flavored with hops. They can be overly sweet (I mix them with club soda), but if it's the hops/bitterness you are missing these offer that without being any closer to beer than grape juice is to wine.

This is the addictive voice (AV) talking. Here, let me run it through the AV translator:

I'm craving a couple of Coors Lights

Drink a coke!

I drank the for a bit when I first quit...one or two to keep me busy was what I thought. Pretty soon I was drinking 4 or 5 and frustrated. That was when I knew they weren't for me.

Aside from the important fact that it won't make you an alcoholic, Coke has got to be one of the most toxic substances ever presented for human consumption.

A glass of orange juice likely has more alcohol content in it than a 12oz bottle of non alcoholic beer. Having said that, everyone is different & it could lead to having the monster on your back.

if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and flies like a duck, its a duck.

drinking NA beer would be like asking the lord to lead me from temptation then walking into it.

:ghug3[QUOTE=Flintlock;348025 - "Non alcoholic beer is for non alcoholics". . .[/QUOTE]

That sums it up for me.

If it works to keep you from drinking real beer, I see no problem with it. My father drank n/a beer for years whenever he would "get the taste" and it kept him sober.

Different strokes for different folks. NA beer doesn't bother some of us; others find that it triggers them too much. Probably, in the absence of knowing, it's better to stay away from it.

Plus, it does not taste good. I mean really...it's awful.

Let me put it to you this way ... my husband had a month of sober time but then he decided he missed the taste of beer. So he decided to start drinking NA beer. Two weeks later, he was back to drinking the real thing ... along with his whisky. Was the NA beer the cause? Who knows. But I think it was at least part of the reason he went back out.
