for some reason I'm not dead yet
I'm one year sober. Some old college friends told me last weekend that they didn't think I would still be alive today. They said they thought I would die from drinking by now. I'm 39. I'm surprised they told me this. Because when I did drink they never tried to stop me. Strange. They still all drink. They are not alcoholic though. I am the only one who ended up alcoholic.
Just wanted to share this. Not sure why.

Congratulations on your year. I too kind of wish my "friends" would have raised a stink about my drinking and pulled the bottle from my hands. But even if they did, I would have probably just bought another one. And it is kind of funny that I don't see those friends much now. Perhaps there is no train wreck to watch these days? I guess I just wasn't ready to stop until I was ready. I'm not really sure what would have made a difference.

Yeah that is what I'm thinking, ru12. They must have enjoyed watching the train wreck too much to want to stop it. Also I think our society is so obsessed with alcohol that people are criminally indifferent to the casualties. It reminds me of Penn State. Those people were so obsessed with football that they were willing to overlook child molestation!
