This reminds me of the line in the Big Book which states that we will be unable, at certain times, to bring into our conciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago. My experience and the experience of thousands of others shows that to be true. Countless times I would vomit, or do something humiliating and exclaim that I hated alcohol and would drink it no more. Only to come to a strange mental blank spot where those memories did very little to keep me from drinking and I would be back at it.
Just be careful, alcoholism is a FATAL disease. Much stronger than our will power or an online recovery group. I agree with what was previously said. For me, a program of action was essential to keep me sober.
God Bless Ya!

someone once told me that they didnt like the word "slip" because a slip is when you don't see it coming at all and it just happens and BAM you are on the ground. i think when we relapse we see it coming a long way off, pulling a trailer house.

For some people, alcoholism is the reason they drink, and their dependence is stronger than their will or some message board. For me, it was my drinking that caused the alcoholism, and my strength of will and the support of others was more than enough to quit. Stop the drinking, and the alcohol dependence stopped too.

Keep it up, Hendrixstrat, and keep us posted too.

Your posts are not annoying. I use to be obsessed with the counting days of sobriety. I simply don't count them anymore and try to stay sober for the day. Thats it. 24 hrs then repeat. I was around 9months sober & then had a 1day slip 3-4weeks ago. I don't even know the day. Just trying to sober the rest of today.

That's the best way!!

I actually hate counting my days......"I'm sober today and have no plans of drinking tomorrow so that's enough for me".

I'm still sober.....I've lost count of the days but this is the longest I have gone in years without alcohol....
I still get cravings every few days but they pass.
