Vivid dreams, art, toxic substances...
 

Abstaining from alcohol and drugs for a day or two results in vivid, creative, disturbing dreams for my roommate. Do you think this is connected to alcohol and drugs or her lack-there-of? Do any of you experience this?

On a similar note, what are your thoughts on the connection between creativity and substances...it's as if the part of the brain one plays with while abusing alcohol (and drugs) is pretty damn close to the part of the brain that produces fascinating art, music, poetry and film....How do we reconcile this? Any artists out there thinking about this too?

I can certainly relate to the dreams! I have had them too, though not for a few weeks now . mine were very vivid , and I still remember them in detail.

I have vivid drug dreams. Very vivid. And after years off crack, I still have them. Funny, though, I don't have alcohol dreams (quit april 12, 2003) and I don't have any klonopin dreams (went to normal dosage Oct 10, 2003).

As far as extrodinarily vivid general dreaming, I have not had that. If they were good vivid dreams, I'd enjoy them :D.

Perfectly normal. My drunk dreams would come and go the first couple of weeks. I havn't had one in a while but when I do I know it's just a reminder for where I no longer want to go. Wish your friend well for us!

I used to "think" I was more creative and would help hubby with his music, but in hindsight, most of what I did when I looked at it was virtual crap!.... however, I don't condone it, but I know artist's who draw and paint "think" they get their greatest inspiration when buzzed. I look at it as letting go which we learn to do sober/clean.

Yes...95% of my drinking dreams came in early sobriety.

A 4 year old could have done as well. :D

An old time friend of mine has paintings in museums..he never drank or drugged.
He is the only example of artistic recognition I personally know.

And I used to giggle at his work...:o
