I think the big thing for me is to not put myself into a situation where I used alcohol to cope or to numb myself. And to remember the outcome of when I tried to find answers in a bottle or drown my problems... nothing good ever came of those days. I relapsed 6 years ago and am just now finding sobriety again. I also think the key for me is to not be too hard on myself, not set unreachable goals, and find ways to open up... because keeping everything locked inside hasn't worked. And I thank God everyday for the things I accomplish and for my shrink!
