Cravings for Cigarettes

Just a little light-hearted banter...

So I quit smoking cigarettes years ago... And now that I've quit drinking I have the urge to smoke cigarettes... What's the deal?

When talking to councilor she said that this might happen...
Anyone have the same experience?

anyone know why?

Well I'm feeding it with Orange Soda right now, that seems to be working pretty good so far.

I forgot how much I like Orange Soda.

Gotta find the positives in sobriety to stay sober...

I've requested outpatient recovery, but they say I'm too severe... I don't think I'm ready for AA just yet, I find that talking to people face to face about my addiction makes it worse, so I'm going to give it a little time....

D.D. I think you are just scared sh!#less like the rest of us are when we approach the end (one way or the other) of our drinking careers.
Your fears of AA, recovery and sober living will soon prove unfounded.

All the best.

What disease? I'm not aware of one that makes you smoke cigarettes.

Sure you are its all "the beast" or "the disease" whichever way you slice it its is still the same drive for chamical satisfaction coming from the same place.

I am thinking about kicking cigerates myself after doing some thinking about it. have been kicking the idea around ever since I ran out a couple of hours ago. With AVRT in my pocket I think I might be able to do it. Now I like drinking I have to decide if I really want to be done.

I started smoking again when I started dating my bf. I had quit years before. If I'm not drinking, smoking or using pills, it feels weird and I get panicky. Not to have anything in my system is alien and freaks me out. If I'm not drinking, smoking or using, I'm eating. I think the ability to not do any of that and just sit with my weird, uncomfortable, sober feelings is what's called emotional sobriety. I find it very, very hard. I'd rather eat cookies than drink or use and hopefully I'll get to the point where I don't need to self-medicate with anything and being completely sober and abstinent will feel good, not uncomfortable.

I had my last cigarette two days ago

Sorry, can't explain the nicotine craving.

I was sober about 13 or 14 years when I had about a year and a half without cigarettes. For some stupid reason, I had one cigarette. Then two. Then three. Got tired of bumming them from others and bought Just One Pack.

Smoked for another year and a half, and got right back up to a two pack a day habit in less than a month.

Had to quit the damn things all over again.

Learned that lesson!

I'm late to this discussion, but I'm getting the same cravings. I stopped drinking 3 weeks ago and have increasingly craved cigarettes – really strong and recurrent cravings. But the weird thing is that I stopped smoking nearly 7 years ago.

Has anyone else had this? Does it pass?

i quit smoking two years ago but i've been having the same cravings too! its definitely just the addict part of my brain crying out for some kind of satisfaction since I'm not feeding it with alcohol anymore.

Well, I have never been a smoker and when I first stopped drinking I had a craving for cigarettes. Just the addicted brain wanting something...anything. Thank goodness I didn't take up smoking.
