Thanks ...glad to know of your progress...
I used HALT in early sobriety..meaning I was aware of not
allowing myself to become overly....
Hungry...Angry...Lonely....Tired.
As depression was part of my drinking ..I added a S for Sad.
HALTS worked really well for me...

Good point, Carol. I would also add to that "bored." Boredom was a huge part of my drinking ... good thing to stay busy.

I find healthy juices helpful.
A good organic carrot, apple, orange, or blueberry smoothie.
I had a sponsor tell me to take a spoonful of honey. That helps.
A prayer to God to remove the obsession is helpful.
A telephone call to another alcoholic is helpful.

I do exactly that! Coffee or food. And I make sure it's delicious food, something special and filling as I never feel like drinking on a full stomach.
And I could almost guarantee that I would be feeling one of the HALT emotions when I craved in the beginning.

Pain.
Pain made me crave as I self-medicated my pain. Today, over the counter relief is available and it works when I don't drink.
Getting up and doing something helps, if you are like me, there's lots of stuff sitting and waiting to be addressed, too!

Belive it or not in the past a ful stomach has actually been a little bit of a trigger for me. Especially certain foods the last time that I went 10-12 days I ate sushi, and I love me some sushi, so I was full and driving home and fighting the whole way back to grab beer because I usually would have drank beer with the meal and didn't this time. anyhow I made it home but the cravings got stronger and not beig very experienced with hoe to handle them I gave in. Wierd hu? I don't know sometimes a ful stomach makes me want to drink more but it all depends on the food.
