You guys are great! Also, it just occured to me that I should have suggested two enormously influential books on my own life, not having to do with sobriety per se but two modern and scientific meditations on the concept of god:
Man and His Symbols - a reader edited by Carl Jung explaining his life's work
and
Cosmos - Carl Sagan, a true masterpiece.
Enjoy!

David Foster Wallace: "Infinite Jest"
ditto on Mel Ash
And Julia Cameron "The Artist's Way" - you don't have to read hard between the lines to see that she has 12 step connections...

Mack, I need to raid your library amigo. I'm still waiting on The Zen of Recovery BTW. Odd coincidence to mention, my Mom (RIP) bought me a copy of The Artist's Way long ago just before she passed on. I never did get a chance to read it and of course it got lost in one shuffle or another. I'll be picking up another copy now. Thanks heaps for bringing that back to mind.
King's books were a lifeline for me mate. Seriously, I'd sit in my room - stick some music on - have tea and sweets and just read and read and read. At one point I was reading 3 or 4 books a week. I couldn't stop!

Peter G......yes, Oprah was invloved with "outing" Frey's book...... but then came on her show, as he did other news programs, to 'fess up. Saw the interview....Oprah was NOT pleased..... Caroline Knapp's book was the first memoir on alcoholism I ever read.....many years before I accepted my own alcoholism. You are right.....SPOT ON!! Just remembered another memoir: Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher.
