What helped you as a newcomer to SoberRecovery?
I’m trying to see if I can get some feedback from people who used Soberrecovery when they were new to recovery. People who had little idea what recovery was all about when they joined.
I want to know how various former newcomers viewed (and now view if thats different) the comments of those who responded to them early in their recovery journey. Who, those responding contributors were, is not what I’m after. I would like to know what they had to say. What was helpful. I’m also curious about your reaction to how other members approached what you wrote, by being confrontational or supportive for example.
I'd like to hear how you see it. It would be helpful to know how long you are now sober. I’d also like to hear ONLY from those former newcomers, THANKS

If you really want to know the details you can go back and read my first posts.
I liked the fact that when I posted here people responded, period. I had posted on other message boards and was used to posting something and then checking a week later to see if there were any responses. I loved, and still love, the fact that people are quite active here and responsive to most threads. This is one of the reasons I try to find threads that haven't had many or any replies yet, especially in the newcomers forum, so I can *bump* them up to the top for more feedback.

I came here thinking I was about to die.
I still remember getting up the nerve to post...and then posting...and almost instantly receiving responses.
I received understanding and compassion, and I'm grateful I did. I was beat up enough - I was an expert at self battering - I wasn't looking to be beat up more.
I'm not a crier but I remember crying a lot that day.
I was no longer alone in this - and that made a lot of difference.
The people who inspired me - and still do - were those who lived their recovery...
you can tell the difference between someone who talks the talk and someone who walks the walk I think.
Later, as I moved from stopping drinking to staying stopped, I gravitated to those who I could see were both sober and happy and content with it.
I didn't always like what some of them had to say, lol, but all of them helped.

When I first came here I was terrified, I did not want to hear about AA or any other programs, I came here looking for a magical fix. That of course never happened. Lol. I was about 30 days sober when I first found this website, I had quit cold turkey. I instantly fell in love with the online chat meetings and such.
However I initially rejected all the comments people made suggesting I go to meetings, etc. I didn't want to because I had a lot of fear and anxiety. But eventually I hung around here long enough to read other peoples experiences and I learned how to face my fears and get myself into AA. So I use that and this website combined for my recovery.
I have to say, this place is a blessing.
