Help

I have come to acknowledge that I am alcoholic.
I don't want to cry about my 'war story' but appreciate
some help. I have been found to be smelling of 'stale'
alcohol at work in the morning. More than once. I have
a responsible job which I wish to keep. I also know that
if getting into trouble can stop you drinking - you're probably
not alcoholic. But I am in danger of losing everything. I
totally beleive in the Programme as I have listened to shares
for around four years. Have read the first 164 pages and seen
it work in others. I need help from others that know where I'm at.

Welcome lara12...I was where you are...And it doesn't get any better drinking...I did those things you have done...But I needed to work the program...The 12 steps..I needed meetings and I needed a good sponsor to guide me through the steps...It works...It takes some effort...But so does drinking...The ones I have seen that succeeded in AA did the same...It's all in the 12 steps and meetings...Talking with and helping other alcoholics..Enjoy the site...It's a good place to hang out..

Hi Lara,

Great to know you believe in the AA program already and you're reading the big book. I got sober with living the AA program. It works. I am a recovered alcoholic.

SR is a great place for help and sharing with others as you'll soon discover. I hope you don't lose everything. Its always a good time to quit everyday. Good to see you wanting help from others who understand you. Working with others is a great way to help ourselves. Welcome to SR.

lara12, I remember feeling just like you.

My sponsor, who was sober for about 15 yrs at the time, suggested that I move up from being involved in AA to committing to AA.... He explained it:

"The difference is like a bacon & egg breakfast,

The chicken is involved and the pig is committed."

Wishing you the best.

2 sapling, robert , heather and 2grand. I am so encouraged by your comments. I have studied the programme for around 2 years but have not comitted to action. I am in Scotland and listen to US shares almost every day. I especially like Chris and Myers R and Bob D. I know this works and will have to concede to the alcohol use - sorry, meaning I will need to stop. It aint about how much you use substances or alcohol. It aint about how many DWI's you got. It is about giving your will over to God. Truth be told - I need to do that NOW. Ty again

I'm glad you're posting here, Lara, and you're right, it's about how alcohol is affecting your life. I'm glad you've decided to stop drinking, and I'm glad that you're working on your recovery.

Welcome to SR!!

I attended AA in 1986 at the age of 25. Today, I have about 9+ months sober because I worked the 12 steps with a sponsor (guide) this time around.

When I decided to surrender fully, the commitment to continue was easy.

My previous sponsors didn't suggest working past step 3. I was miserable. Today, you can see me most places with a cheesy grin on my face! Okay, it's a smile

Again, welcome to SR!
