Stomach pain and Depression
I've been an alcoholic for 3 years. I'm really trying to quit and I have cut down my drinking and am skipping a day between drinks. Sometimes I even get 2 or 3 sober days. Eventually I'd like to skip 2 days, then 3 so on. My main issue is when the stomach cramps n depression hit I feel like I'm doing to die. So I give in, do a shot or 2 (not to get buzzed) and within 10 minutes I feel "normal" and can continue my day. Also, once in awhile if I go on a binge (less n less binging) my face will turn bright red. What causes this and is anyone here familiar with anything I'm saying. Thanks. And sorry for being hasty in a few of my previous posts, this addiction is pure hell.
Hi JC
here's the thing - by continuing to drink you're not helping anything.
Not drinking at all will definitely help the stomach aches and the red face - and it should help the depression unless that was pre-existing.
If you feel bad when you stop drinking and better when you start again that likely means you have some physical dependence going on.
If you're worried about withdrawals, it's a great idea to check with your Dr beforehand.

That's what I'm saying, I'm trying to quit. 2 months ago I was drinking a 5th of vodka and about 8 beers every single day. Since then I have cut back extremely. I go thru a 5th about once every 2.5 weeks because all I do is take 1 shot when my stomach starts cramping, sometimes that's only a few times a week. I'm jot Getting drunk anymore. I'm Getting my life back but its a slow process. and I did contact my doctor, she said its normal and that going cold turkey is bad. I have an appointment to get on Meds.

The red face thing could be this:
Alcohol flush reaction - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If you are going to your Dr anyway bring this up as well.

Hi JC,
I agree with what sugarbear just said. I'm not a doctor but it seems to me that your history with alcohol (especially the vodka) could be causing some kind of inflammation to your stomach lining. I have had periods where I was drinking cheap wine (and lots of it) and the stuff just seemed to kill my stomach after awhile.
I hope your condition improves and I wish you the best of luck in your efforts to cut back/get sober.

I Know EXACTLY what is happening with you
Hi there. My name is Evan. I went through exactly what you did. You do have Asian Glow but it is not a genetic Asian Glow. What is happening is your liver is breaking down. It is losing its ability to produce the enzymes necessary to digest and remove the alcohol. The excess toxin in your system is causing the allergic reaction called Asian Glow or Asian Flush. Here is the bottom line. You are dying - literally. You major organs are starting to shut down. Your liver is a pretty important one. When this happened to me I quit immediately. This was in Dec of 2010. My life has totally turned around and I now make in excess of $500 daily online. Set a goal and make THAT your passion. Trust me. no matter how hard you think it will be to quit drinking it does not matter you have to quit. The only other alternative is realize and succumb to the idea you are going to die because of alcohol and trust me, it won't be pleasant. You can do it. I did it and it was the best thing I ever did. I will never drink again and I have no desire to drink. I now see it as a worthless poison that should be illegal. Good luck.
What hell it must be!! This is my experience... I couldn't get sober on my own. I did it through AA which worked because of the enormous support and advice of people who had tread the path I was on. Forget God, higher power, you must do something to stop this hell. There are physicians who specialize in addiction, suggest looking up a local physician on Google. Good luck.
Try Braggs organic apple cider vinegar for the stomach pain. 2 - 3 tablespoons in an 8ox glass of water. 2-3 times a day. you'll feel the effects immediately. My stomach problems has completely disappeared since I've been drinking it. It s full of minerals and vitamins too. If you have any concerns though, check with your doctor first.
