Can you have alcohol in the house?
You'll get a variety of opinions.
Personally, unless you're considering someone who lives with you, I don't get why you'd have it around.
I don't have alcohol in my house - there's no requirement for me to do so because I don't drink it.

Can I?
Well my wife likes wine and my adult son who is transitioning from college to the real world likes beer... so, well, I guess I can, LOL
Funny, though, I wouldn't want the hard stuff around, IDK why, but once there was a bottle of rum from christmas... I wanted it gone...

the urge to use is like a second personality, wispering sweet BS. I have failed in the past, therefore I want as many barriers, as much support, as few triggers, around me as possiable.
Perhaps after at least a year I will consider "letting my guard down" in terms of where I go, who i spend time with, and what I am willing to have near at hand. Until then, I won't even consider it.

1. Because I had a lot left over (unopened bottles) when I told myself "enough."
2. Because I want to prove to those ******* bottles that I don't care.
I had a guest at my house for a while that had a bottle of Gin out in plain site it didn't bother me that much. But if there were beers in the fridge it would be a completely different story.

No I cant. I am uneasy with it at gf house, but I manage to live with that.
I was in the supermarket tonight, and as it was the big MUFC v Ajax match, people were buying up lots of beer. I really didnt like that either

Yeah, my roommate keeps some beer in the fridge. Granted, I was sober for almost a year before I put myself in this position, but it's been there for the last several months and I've had no uncontrollable urges. Not to say I haven't had an occassional thought, but on those rare occassions I've been able to 86 that. If I lived by myself, no, I wouldn't have any alcohol.
after a decade of sobriety i felt ok with friends or SO s leaving a bottle or even a six pack around my place- but i noticed that within a few days i was finding an outta sight spot for it....
living by myself now i would not want it in my house... i suspect my reasons would be suspect.

Some can, some can't.
I've had wine in my house (and I live alone) since I got sober. That said, it's down in the basement and I never go down there. I don't know that I'd want it in my fridge or out on a counter that I see all-day / every-day, yanno?
I've been looking for a wine connoisseur to give the bottles to (no way I was gonna just toss 4 bottles worth a couple hundred bucks each) - someone who'll appreciate them, yanno? Most of the time though, I just forget that they're down there.
When I've had stuff in the kitchen though, it has "talked" to me once and a while but it's only been there for a day or two (like if a buddy was over and coming back the next day......so he just left his beers at my place to finish "tomorrow").
"Safe and protected" "recoil as if from a hot flame" are two "promises" in AA I've experienced. On the other hand........I don't know that I'd want a fridge full of beers every day of the week when I got home. ....then again, I can't say it would bother me 'cuz I've not had the experience with that situation.
You know your own truth....

I have kept wine in the wine rack since the day I got sober. The reason is that friends and family drink wine and the ladies that I date are wine drinkers. It has never been an issue over the last 13 years. I buy wine on a regular basis, I also buy Drano; I know that drinking either one won't do me any good, end of story.
I do not suggest this approach to anyone; it is simply the answer to the question posed in this thread. If I buy and serve Scotch or Canadian Club, the unused portions go home with my guest as those were my drink of choice over my 25 year drinking career.
I have too good a life sober to jeopardize it with wine, but no sense "spitting into the wind" regarding whiskey of any flavor. Again, it is just what I have done and everyone needs to examine their own situation.
I will say that if I ever find myself looking more longingly at the bottles of wine than I do at the lady drinking it, then the wine would have to go!!

Yes, there is alcohol in my house. No liquor bottles on the counter anymore, but it's in the closet, and in the wine cooler. It's for our friends that come over and want a drink.
That spiritual awakening makes all the difference in the world to me. Before, I would have clawed my way through a locked door to get at it.

I keep a couple beers in the fridge for company, beer doesn't tempt me.. However, the liquor is in the bottom of a box in my closet, that box is behind a bigger box and below a heavier box that I can't even reach. I made it nice and tough to get too, if I have company over that wants it I'll get it out, but most of the time they prefer a beer anyway
There's a bottle of rum sitting in my basement that was a Christmas present from my parents (not yet realizing that I was newly sober). It's there for guests, or for my fiance who has the odd drink. It doesn't much bother me, but I wasn't much of a hard liquor drinker. If there was some beer or cider kicking around, there'd definitely be some anxiety....
