MilkThistle

I have read that this stuff is really good for the liver. I was on some pretty reputable websites (I wanna say mayo clinic?) and the reviews were quite positive.
Anyone take this? I started taking it recently as I am just trying to be all around healthier and was just wandering if I should bother.
Thanks all!

Personally I think you should always check with your Dr before taking any supplements.
What may have worked for others may not work, or may not even be suitable for you.

As I had it explained to me, milk thistle may not be good for those people who already have liver damage, for example.

The Mayo clinic website actually said that studies done in people with cirrhosis showed improvements in liver function tho.

Yeah I'm not a Dr - & altho my own Dr did tell me that - I'm not giving you medical advice just sharing my experience...I've gotten in trouble before from taking supplements I didn't need to take.

If you're convinced it's your call BC

I still think its best to see a Dr if you're unsure - especially if you're on other medications or supplements

No, I do agree that it is probably a good idea to talk to a doc. Just have to find one that is not a total ass like the last one I went to. (:

Try eating lots of fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water. Call and talk to a doctor.

Ive been taking milk thistle for 3 months now and there really is no way of knowing if it actually works unless your monitored by a doctor. The websites say positive things about this flowering plant, helps with inflammatory, fatty liver, and in some cases cirrhosis. ive been taking it daily just to help with the recovery of an all night bender. I to have been drinking quite a bit over the past 10 years (4 nights a week and about 7 whiskys on the rocks a night) and think i have done some damage to my liver, im 33.

I do believe that drinking lots of water daily and eating fresh fruits and veggies helps to revive the liver, along with a day or two of rest. But im not a doctor and i could be totally wrong.

I also every morning drink a warm glass of lemon water with turmeric and powder ginger. I cant remember where i read this, but this combination of ingredients are supposed to flush out the toxins from your liver after a heavy drinking period.

Again, im no doctor and i dont know if this is helping me or hurting me. i will continue this cleanse just for a peace of mind.

I take Milk Thistle and like Dee and most others said it is best to check with the doc. The negative things I've researched usually involve interactions.

But the absolute best I have found (besides eating much better) is Dihydrogen Monoxide. You must be extremely careful with it though. It can cause severe burns under certain circumstances and can be fatal if inhaled. It can also kill you if you take too much because of electrolyte depletion.

You also have to be careful not to spill it on furniture without cleaning it up and it reacts badly with many metals. My regimen is anywhere from 1 1/2 liters to 2 1/3 liters each day unless I am working out heavily.

Everyone in my family uses it including the pets.

I used to take it every day for a few years but I couldn't tell if it did anything. I ran out a few years ago and never bought it again. My liver still gets high marks in my checkups so who knows. Did it help? Hence, why I stopped taking it.
