Hi

I need a quit buddy. Someone to send me a message from time to time. I need some one who is at a similar stage.

There's a new thread in the Newcomers to Recovery forum for February, 2012. You'll find some folks at about the same place you are. Here's a link...

hey! I haven't seen your "name" lately! great to see you! how long sober are ya?

I've gone from drinking 7 days a week to 2-3 days a week. I enjoy my sober days, and the mornings that come after. But on the third or forth day sober I start feeling really weird. I get a feeling of fear. It's not very intense but I feel like I've lost some level of control. I was what is called a chronic pain patient. That's why I started drinking, to kill physical pain. Dr's didn't believe me when I told them what I was experiencing. I had a specialist tell me that I should take up meditation. Anyway, after a couple of years I went I found a Dr that knew exactly what was going on. Crazy how the 6 Dr's prior thought I was a fool and this guy didn't even need to ask me a bunch of questions. Blah Blah Blah, here I am, no longer having to deal with a lot of pain and still drinking. I don't believe this is a disease. I believe that I need something to do. I need something to look forward to. I quit smoking about 4 years ago and that wasvery difficult but I found something to do that made smoking a weight. I started backpacking a lot. I couldn't allow myself to smoke because I knew that I wouldn't be able to climb the mountains as well. I need something like that for alcohol. Maybe I should get off my butt and get to Grad School. That should do it.

I started drinking for various tangible reasons too, pain among them - but by the time I finished my drinking career I definitely had become addicted to alcohol as well.

I hope simply keeping busy works for you boiled, but it wasn't enough for me, I'm afraid. I needed to make more changes than not drink and keep busy.
