Still going...
Still going...
So, I hadn't looked at my sobriety counter for several days. Today is day 25 without alcohol. I started my new job on Monday, which is going very well Earlier on in the week I caught myself thinking,'Wow, there is no way I could do this job and drink every day.'
I'm so glad that I had a couple weeks of sobriety under my belt before jumping into this. I would have surely crashed and burned had I taken this position 2-3 months ago.
It amazes me how fast the last month has gone. I haven't craved alcohol but it is always in the back of my mind. I bought a couple of books recently. The one that I'm reading now is ,"The Triumph of Addiction in the Breakdown of the Bicameral, Addictive Voice, or, Who Killed Julian James?" by Jack Trimpey.
I find some of the points in this book useful, as far as recognizing my "addictive voice" and separating it from my conscious self that does not want to drink anymore.
I've got a few sober weekends under my belt now. I feel that I'm getting settled into my sobriety and have less anxiety about it.
Will post more thoughts on the books later! Let me know if you have any good books that you would recommend.

Well done blackout girl You are motivating me so much.
Two weeks for me tomorrow and life is getting better and better.
Isn't it great to make decisions with a sober head, not the hungover fuzz.
Well done on your job, too!!!

My wife and I have 6 daily reading books that we read each morning and discuss. She's Al-Anon and I'm AA. I also have the Hazelden "24 hrs a Day" book.
We really like Earnie Larson and Melody Beattie for daily reading
Sign up at Hazelden's website for their daily email and also I like "Wisdom of the Rooms" weekly emails.
Wife and I get books at the library and we regularly browse the Salvation Army/St Vincent de Paul etc. for good self-help books.
Great to hear that you re taking well to sobriety and looking forward to more reports.
You go girl !!

Tomorrow will mark 14 days of sobriety for myself. AVRT (Addictive Voice Recognition Technique) has been indispensable for recognizing and combating cravings. In fact, my cravings have diminished substantially in the past few days. Although thoughts of alcohol still persist, realizing there is a dichotomy between my desire for sobriety and the addictive impulse has made sobriety nearly effortless.
